Fundraising
Following consultation with Land Use Consultants three years ago,
the development of the 12 acres of the west bank of the River Ericht
(donated by a local land owner to BARRC) will take several years
to complete and cost many millions of pounds but the end result
should see Blairgowrie and Rattray Community restored to its busy
market town and tourist draw for many years to come.
The first Phase consists of the two
projects being partially funded by the Town Centre Regeneration
Fund of £1.5m given to BARRC in March 2010.
These are the HYDRO SCHEME and a new VISITOR
CENTRE on the west bank of the River Ericht.
Work on the Hydro Scheme commenced
on 19th July 2010. The Visitor Attraction is currently being defined
and interpreted. The consultation process with many local groups
in the Community has been completed.
The Scottish Government has granted
a time extension to BARRC to complete the Visitor Centre by the
fourth quarter of 2011.
These projects are extremely far
reaching and ambitious and will take in excess of £2m to achieve
their full potential to regenerate Blairgowrie and Rattray and the
surrounding area.
