Who
are we, what we do
A report initiated by the Merchants
Association, was presented by Professor Terry Stevens from Stevens
& Associates at a public meeting of the community in Blairgowrie
and Rattray in November 2007. His regeneration recommendations were
taken up by the community who agreed to take matters forward and
formed the Blairgowrie & Rattray Regeneration Company (BARRC
/ The Company). This company is limited by Guarantee and has been
granted charitable status.
BARRC is regarded as a role model for Community led regeneration
in Scotland by the Scottish Government and opposition MSPs, whose
association with BARRC has helped to encourage the formation of
the Town Centre Regeneration Fund (TCRF) initiative.
The Board set up then, consisted of six community
volunteers, each successful businessmen in their own right, who
discussed a range of charitable projects aimed at regenerating the
local economy which would benefit a wide range of people in the
Community.
Projects are run by a series of sub committees each with dedicated
and skilled community volunteers whose job it is to deliver the
specified objectives within the allotted timeframe
The Company has engaged with all the local
organisations and sought views on what it’s priorities should
be. This has involved holding several public meetings and publicising
activities in the local press.
